Indianapolis is the 16th largest city in the country, and features probably the most architecturally varied roofline in the state of Indiana.
Older central neighborhoods carry late-Victorian, Craftsman, and American Foursquare homes built before WWII, most with steep pitches, multiple gables, and a layer or two of asphalt sitting over original cedar or slate.
Townships surrounding the city like Pike, Wayne, Decatur, Perry, Franklin, Warren, Lawrence, and Washington bring mid-century ranches, split-levels, and 1980s’ subdivisions with hip and gable roofs to the city. The far north and east sides keep adding new construction every year.

The bottom line: Central Indiana weather is hard on roofs. Marion County sits inside the Midwest hail belt, so golf-ball-sized hail is not uncommon in the spring and summer months.
